Kindred Quaker Groups
Quaker Ecology Action Network (QEAN)
QEAN is a grassroots initiative of members and attenders of Quaker Meetings in Canada whose purpose is to explore and share a Quaker faith perspective on issues relating to the human-earth relationship.
The Quaker Ecology Action Network arose out of the concerns of Friends gathered at Canadian Yearly Meeting in Winnipeg, Manitoba in 1999. In its first 2 years of existence it was called the Ecological Working Group of CYM, but the name was changed in 2001 to emphasize its Action orientation. Its work is built on a foundation of Canadian Quaker belief relating to a fundamental respect for creation, which was articulated at CYM in Windsor, Nova Scotia in August 2001:
Friends believe that we are all manifestations of the Creator, the Divine Sprit, of God. As our knowledge has grown we have come to realize that indeed all life forms are exquisitely inter-related and inter-dependent, thus all life is sacred. We envision a religious Society of Friends in the 21st Century, that includes in its testimonies a clear call of responsibility to live in harmony with all life on Earth.
