QEW Programs
FGC Gathering—Each year QEW hosts an Earthcare Center at the Gathering to welcome Friends who share a concern for the earth and provide a place for them to network with others. The center is filled with books, videos and DVD’s, and activities for children. Staffed with volunteers to answer questions, the center presents a series of afternoon workshops related to the local ecosystem and/or the theme of the Gathering.
QEW Annual Meetings—Each October, QEW holds its annual meeting in a different state and region in order that we can meet new Friends. Workshops and speakers usually interpret the local bioregion and offer opportunities for building community. We are wrestling in this time of rising oil prices and global climate change with the concept of bringing people together from across the nation. Let us know your thoughts.
Finca La Bella, Costa Rica—The Ann Kreibel/San Luis (AK/SL) project of QEW is a means of outreach to our neighbors to the south. The 122-acre community (called Finca la Bella, the Beautiful Farm) was purchased by Quaker funds and is farmed by 24 formerly landless families. These parcel holders or “parceleros” rent their land upon agreement to work cooperatively and to move toward farming sustainably. Occasional work-camps there provide a rich experience in international cooperation.
