SUMMARY:Nature's Best Hope with Doug Tallamy
DESCRIPTION:Recent headlines about global insect declines and three billion fewer birds in North America are a bleak reality check about how ineffective our current landscape designs have been at sustaining the plants and animals that sustain us. Such losses are not an option if we wish to continue our current standard of living on Planet Earth. The good news is that none of this is inevitable. Choosing the right plants for our landscapes will not only address the biodiversity crisis but help fight our climate crisis as well. Doug will discuss simple steps that each of us can- and must- take to reverse declining biodiversity\, why we must change our adversarial relationship with nature to a collaborative one\, and why we\, ourselves\, are nature’s best hope. \nDr. Doug Tallamy is an entomologist\, conservationist\, and professor at the University of Delaware\, whose work has transformed our understanding of the relationship between native plants and wildlife. He and his wife Cindy were married under the care of Concord Friends Meeting. \nHis research and books\, including Bringing Nature Home and Nature’s Best Hope\, have inspired millions to see their own yards as part of the solution to the biodiversity crisis. Driven by the belief that everyone can play a role\, Doug co-founded Homegrown National Park to encourage people to plant natives in the spaces they care for. \nHis vision is simple: when we all take part\, we create the connected habitats that life depends on. \nRegister Here

SUMMARY:Real Impact - Quaker Finance for Ecological Justice
DESCRIPTION:Quaker Earthcare Witness invites Friends into a “call to integrity” regarding our financial stewardship. As the climate emergency accelerates\, many Quaker institutions and individuals rely on “ethical” investing or ESG (Environmental\, Social\, and Governance) screenings to align their money with their values. \nBut is this enough? In this hard-hitting session\, we move beyond traditional engagement to explore why prevailing financial approaches often deliver “zero impact” for the climate transition. We will look honestly at the structural limits of the current system and discern how we can pivot our resources toward tangible\, regenerative solutions that honor the Quaker Statement on Climate Change. \nWhat We Will Explore:  \n\nThe “Unblinding”: Exposing the Secondary Market “Scam” – Why trading stocks in a diseased economy often serves as a reputational hedge rather than a real lever for change. Divestment often only solves half the problem.\nThe Structural Limits of ESG – An examination of why ethical screenings frequently fail to remove major fossil fuel financiers from our portfolios.\nInvesting in Real Communities – Instead of going with the flow of traditional investing in a diseased system\, we will present a vision for moving resources directly into real-world projects like renewable energy\, regenerative agriculture\, and life-saving healthcare – outside the stock market all together.\nFrom Talk to Action – Addressing the uncomfortable reality that Quaker institutions still invest billions in sectors driving ecological destruction\, and how to reclaim our witness through direct-impact finance.\n\nThis webinar is presented by Quaker Earthcare Witness and the fledgling Applied Economy (R)Evolution Institute (AEEI) founded recently by Vit Mateju and Arne Springorum. The AEEI is a systemic change organization dedicated to redesigning the financial system so that it serves life and ecological integrity. They focus on moving capital away from speculative secondary markets and into “real-asset investing\,” which funds tangible solutions for the climate crisis and social justice. \nGuest Speakers: Vit Mateju and Arne Springorum from the Applied Economy (R)Evolution Institute \nArne Springorum is a Quaker and co-founder at AEEI and a prominent activist-entrepreneur who works to align large-scale economic systems with planetary boundaries. With deep roots in European climate activism\, he focuses on practical\, direct-impact investment strategies that bypass the traditional stock market. \nVit Mateju is the co-founder of AEEI and an expert in systemic financial transformation with decades of experience as a traditional finance professional and a background in designing alternative economic models. Having seen the finance world from the inside\, he is deeply committed to “truth-telling”\, specifically critiquing how traditional investment structures often fail to create the real-world impact they claim to support. \nRegister here

SUMMARY:Thrivability & Way Opening: Moving Beyond “Sustainability”

Russell will introduce thrivability as a lived practice – pairing spiritual grounding with practical design for culture\, economy\, and community. We’ll explore “way opening” amid complexity\, how generativity differs from sustainability\, and simple practices you can bring to meetings\, projects\, and daily life – followed by a moderated conversation and Q&A. \nAbout the speaker: Jean M. Russell is a social ecosystem designer\, facilitator\, and founder of the Thrivability movement\, author of Thrivability: Breaking Through to a World That Works (Triarchy Press). SUMMARY:September Worship Sharing
DESCRIPTION:Quaker Earthcare Witness hosts monthly online worship-sharing groups. \nThis month\, we will meet from 7-8 pm Eastern time/4-5 pm Pacific time on Tuesday\, September 23rd. \nOur worship sharing seeks to explore our Earthcare callings\, nourish our sense of community\, and explore queries to draw us into a shared sacred space. Together\, we are creating more opportunities for Friends who care deeply about the Earth and each other to be in spiritual community with one another. We hope you can join us. \nRegister Here
