Food Security for Bolivian Families – w/Emma Condori
Join us for a crucial event that highlights the Food Security Project, a vital initiative by the Friends International Bilingual Center (FIBC) aimed at supporting indigenous families in the Bolivian highlands who are facing severe food insecurity due to climate change. The project was launched in response to the devastating droughts in 2022 that decimated potato crops, a staple food source for many families. In 2023, FIBC successfully provided seed potatoes to over 300 families, allowing them to plant new crops and secure a harvest in 2024. However, the need remains urgent as more communities continue to struggle with the impacts of climate change.
This year, FIBC is raising $7,500 to distribute seed potatoes to an additional 150 families in October 2024. This event will explore the successes of the project, the ongoing challenges faced by these communities, and how we can all contribute to ensuring food security in the region. Attendees will learn about the direct impact of their support and how they can help Bolivian families overcome these critical challenges.
Featured Speaker: Emma Condori Mamani
Emma Condori Mamani, a Quaker, educator, and environmental activist from Bolivia, will be our speaker. Born near Lake Titicaca, Emma has dedicated her life to addressing the environmental and social challenges faced by her community. Her work with the Friends International Bilingual Center, which she co-founded in 2016, focuses on empowering young people and providing practical solutions to the impacts of climate change, including the successful implementation of biosand water filters in water-scarce areas.
